United Way Board Spotlight: Jamie Nielsen
A native to the Itasca County area, Jamie Nielsen is lucky enough to call this place 'home'. Her and her husband Joe, along with her four children (Morgan, Brayden, Bryce & Lainey), reside in the Trout Lake area and works for ASV Holdings, Inc in Human Resources. During her off time, you can usually find Jamie at one of her kids sporting events, or spending time with family and friends.
Jamie Nielsen, second from the right, organized a team from ASV to run in our 1st Annual Lumberjack Mile/5K. Her team raised over $500 for our annual kick-off through our Virtual 5K fundraiser.
What inspired you to be involved with United Way?
My involvement with United Way started as a Campaign Coordinator for ASV a couple of years ago. While not really knowing what to expect and surpassing our original goal, I couldn’t help but want to strive to achieve even more for our community. I have a passion for helping people and serving on United Way’s Board, and helping build a stronger community closely aligns with those passions.
What is the most rewarding thing you have taken from this experience?
Being able to help and encourage others has always been an aspiration of mine, but I didn’t truly understand how many lives are impacted within the two-dozen plus organizations that United Way of 1000 Lakes supports. This experience has opened my eyes to the amount of needs within our community and I feel blessed to be part of a team of ‘go-getters’ who continue to do what it takes to see that these needs are being met.
What is one word you would use to sum up United Way’s work?
What impresses you most about Itasca?
I am always impressed with the amount of generosity that our community has. Whether a financial gift or a helping hand, it fills my heart to see people giving what they can to help bless others.
What is one thing about United Way that you think most people don’t know?
99% of all monetary contributions to United Way of 1000 Lakes stay local. These contributions may be helping your neighbors out your very own back door. And, you also have an option to select where you would like your contributions to go, whether towards Education, Health, Income or basic needs.
What advice would you give to a potential donor who is considering investing in United Way?
While making an investment to United Way in some form, you will be helping impact lives in our community and it’s a big deal, so thank you for your consideration!
